Yes To was founded in California in 2006 by two friends who wanted to create products made from fruit and vegetables. One of their collections is Yes to Tomatoes, created for blemish prone skin. I tested three products from the range that were made with charcoal and they’re pretty good. The products are fun to use and they’re quite gentle.
Detoxifying Charcoal Peel-Off Mask – bought for €13.95 on Lookfantastic
The first product I tried was the detoxifying peel-off mask that is supposed to peel away impurities and help to keep your skin clear. Well, the mask was pretty fun and easy to use. I really love the applicator, especially because charcoal masks can get so messy.
I read some negative reviews about the application of this mask, but I personally haven’t had any issues. If you apply it correctly and let it dry completely (at least 15 minutes or longer), then there shouldn’t be any problem. Unless, your applicator is defect.
As for the results, I wasn’t really impressed to be honest. My skin looked and felt nice, but that was basically all. My pores didn’t get much smaller and my skin wasn’t that clearer. The mask is not bad, but it’s not much better than others.
The top five ingredients in this product are: Water, Glycerin, Ethyl Alcohol, Algin and Charcoal Powder. These are all natural substances.
2-Step Nose Kit – bought for €5.95 on Lookfantastic
The nose kit on the other hand was great! It’s a little pricey for a one-time use, but it does what it says, which is eliminate clogged pores. It pulled out quite a lot of gunk off my nose and left it looking nice and smooth. It actually removed more impurities than the peel-off mask, so I definitely liked this product more.
The kit comes with a cotton swab and a cleanser, which is really handy. The active ingredient in the cleanser is Salicylic Acid 1%. It’s an effective substance against clogged pores and acne. Some other ingredients are Water, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Coco-Sulfate and Propanediol. The nose strip is made from Water, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Charcoal Powder, Propylene Glycol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate. These are all fairly safe ingredients.
Detoxifying Charcoal Wipes – bought for €2.45 on Lookfantastic
My favourite of all the three products were the detoxifying wipes. They remove make-up and impurities, and because they’re black you can really see all the dirt and gunk that comes off your face on them. They smell nice and fresh, but are a little dry. For me, it wasn’t such a problem because I have combination to oily skin, but if you have dry skin the wipes can feel pretty harsh.
Most ingredients that these wipes are made from are fairly safe, but unfortunately they also contain Phenoxyethanol and Butylphenyl Methylpropional. These are synthetic substances that can be harmful, so it’s best to avoid them.
